Cabinetmaker careers
Cabinetmaker careers require years of study and training. Most cabinet makers complete a four-year apprenticeship program that includes on-the-job training, technical training, and a final exam. However, certification is required by some jurisdictions. This is not a requirement. A high school diploma is possible. A cabinetmaker can earn as much as $52,000 each year.
This profession involves creating cabinets and other furniture for clients. They need to work with various materials and must adhere to the specifications of a professional designer. They must operate woodworking equipment and perform various other tasks. They must also be physically fit and able to lift 50 pounds.
Membership requirements
By joining a cabinet maker's association, you will have access to a vast array of resources and information. For example, you can benefit from the knowledge and feedback of fellow members, attend annual gatherings, and be updated on the latest news and innovations in the industry. Exclusive discounts will be offered at major woodworking trade shows.
A membership to the association is approximately $600. It is based upon your shop's gross annual revenue. You'll have access to the Architectural Woodwork Standards manual and Design Solutions magazine. You can also take part in educational programs and shop tours. AWI will provide you with a cost survey tool and an estimation manual for cabinet manufacturing.
Shop tour
CMA recently hosted a tour of three Atlanta-area cabinet businesses as part of its International Woodworkers Fair. CMA members from all across the country, friends and clients as well as cabinet makers from Atlanta were among those who attended. The one-day event gave attendees the opportunity to find out more about the industry.
This event featured a presentation by CMA's new advertising campaign and a walk through the shops featuring some of its premium suppliers. This tour also included a presentation on the CMA's new Professional Certification Program. Blum, a premier supplier of Rivendell hardware, was also on the tour.
Environmental Stewardship Program
The Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers Association (KCMA), created the Environmental Stewardship Programme (ESP) for kitchen cabinets in 2006. The program promotes sustainable manufacturing practices and community benefits. It sets high standards for products as well as processes and forests. Additionally, it helps consumers to identify greener products. Certified companies must meet five criteria.
The KCMA is a market leader in kitchen cabinet manufacture. They have dedicated themselves to promoting industry policies which benefit society and the planet. The program holds cabinet manufacturers accountable for their environment performance. This helps raise industry credibility. To achieve certification, cabinet manufacturers must meet stringent standards, including air quality and resource management. Kitchen cabinet manufacturers can earn the ESP Seal by meeting these standards.
